Lyme DTC Announces Slate of Nine Candidates To Run in Municipal Elections

Lyme DTC Will Also Support Unaffiliated Candidate Christy Zelek for First Selectman & Kristina White’s Reelection as a Petitioning Candidate for Selectman

The Lyme Democratic Town Committee (DTC) announced today that, at a Democratic caucus held Tuesday night, a slate of nine Democratic candidates was nominated and endorsed by the committee to run in the November 4 municipal elections – including John Kiker for Selectman, Jim Miller for Board of Finance and Anna James for Board of Education. The committee also announced that it would support Unaffiliated candidate Christy Zelek’s election as First Selectman – Zelek will be running as a petitioning candidate – and Kristina White’s reelection to the Board of Selectmen, also as a petitioning candidate.

In announcing the committee’s plans, Lyme DTC Nominating Committee Chairperson Liz Frankel said, “All totaled, we are supporting a group of 11 candidates for each available board and commission opening this year to ensure our values continue to be well-represented on town boards and commissions. We are proud to support this talented group of individuals who are not only highly qualified, but extremely interested in serving the town we all love and cherish.”

Running for election this year on the Democratic Party slate will be:

  • John Kiker for Selectman
  • Jim Miller for Board of Finance
  • Walter Burhans for Board of Finance Alternate
  • Anna James for Board of Education
  • Carol House for Planning & Zoning Commission
  • Toni Phillips for Zoning Board of Appeals
  • Adam Brevoort for Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate
  • Joan Motyka for Library Board of Directors
  • Susan Leon for Library Board of Directors

Christy Zelek will appear on the ballot as a petitioning candidate for First Selectman and Kristina White as a petitioning candidate for Selectman.

Lyme DTC Chair John Kiker said, “Christy Zelek has the skills to do a great job as our First Selectman and has our full support. If elected, she will be Lyme’s first-ever female First Selectman.”

Speaking at the meeting last night, Christy Zelek said, “I am grateful to have received the support of the Lyme DTC. I’m running for office because I love this town. My priorities will include keeping our town the beautiful, historic place it is; keeping our financials in check; keeping our taxes low and supporting our schools; and continuing to address our town’s capital needs, such as our roads, bridges and town equipment. I look forward to the possibility of serving our community as First Selectman.”

Regarding the committee’s support for Kristina White’s campaign for reelection to the Board of Selectmen, Frankel added, “Under state election law, our town committee may only nominate one candidate for Selectman.  As a result, we nominated and endorsed John as our Selectman candidate, and will be actively supporting Kristina’s reelection as a petitioning candidate.  They’ve both done an excellent job on the Board of Selectmen and we want to see them both continue to serve our town.”

The Lyme DTC’s mission is to support and strengthen the Democratic Party in the Town of Lyme and the State of Connecticut.
