Lyme is Run by Volunteers

While Lyme employs only a handful of full-time employees, in order to operate our Town government efficiently, more than 140 additional positions have to be staffed. All of these additional positions are filled by volunteers.

Local residents volunteer to serve on the Town’s boards, committees and commissions; represent the Town as members of regional organizations; and tackle countless jobs most of us never even think about.  Most volunteer positions require only a small or periodic time commitment; a few positions are more time intensive.

Our Town couldn’t run without volunteers.  No matter where your expertise and interests lie, or how much or how little time you have to share, there’s a way you can volunteer to help our Town.

As volunteer positions become vacant in the Town, the Board of Selectmen appoints replacements from a list of candidates proposed by the Democratic and Republican Town Committees – and from other residents who have expressed interest to the Board in the past.
