NOAA Seeking Public Comment on Establishing National Estuarine Research Reserve along Connecticut Shoreline

The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA’s) Office for Coastal Management is seeking public comment on a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) and a Draft Management Plan (DMP) that would help establish a proposed Connecticut National Estuarine Research Reserve (CT NERR) along the Connecticut shoreline.  The area would include Bluff Point, Haley Farm State Park and the University of Connecticut’s campus at Avery Point in Groton; spots along the lower Connecticut River, as well as surrounding waters.

NOAA is accepting written public comments on the DEIS and DMP through 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST), October 18, 2021.

In addition, NOAA will accept oral or written public comments during public hearings that will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (local time) on October 7, 2021, online via WebEx and by phone.

All relevant comments received at the public hearings and during the public comment period will be considered in the preparation of a Final Environmental Impact Statement and Final Management Plan for the proposed designation of the CT NERR.
